Using microarray gene expression profiling, we measure and record all of the gene expression changes that occur in calorie-restricted (CR) mice, our animal model of lifespan extension. Since the DNA probes on the gene chips span the entire mouse genome, we have identified all of the genes in this mammalian model of lifespan extension that respond to calorie restriction. With this information stored in our proprietary bioinformatics database, we can screen drugs, compounds, foods, bioactives from foods, botanical extracts, and a variety of combinations of these in order to identify compounds that mimic the gene expression pattern of CR. Using this approach, we have identified several compounds with CR mimetic activity – this forms the basis for our ongoing product development.
An important element of our technology platform is our extensive bioinformatics database. The database stores information on dozens of animal experiments, key genes involved in the CR response, and molecular pathways related to aging and age-related diseases
Our proprietary repository of genetic information enables BioMarker research scientists to design and conduct experiments that contribute to the knowledge-base of the molecular genetics of aging and supports our growing pipeline of products and genetic information services. |
