Cynthia Kenyon, Ph.D.
Dr. Cynthia Kenyon is well-known internationally for her findings that have led to the discovery that an evolutionarily-conserved hormone signaling system influences aging.  She has been at UCSF since 1986.  She was the Herber Boyer Distinguished Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics and is now an American Cancer Society Professor. In 1993, Cynthia discovered that a single-gene mutation could double the lifespan of C. elegans (worm) sparked an intensive study of the molecular biology of aging.  She is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.  She is now the director of the Hillblom Center for the Biology of Aging at UCSF (Mission Bay).  Cynthia is the founder of Elixir Pharmaceuticals.

Dr. Kenyon received her Ph.D. from MIT.  She did her Post Doc with Nobel laureate Sydney Brenner in Cambridge, UK.
